In 2011, an existing process control system (PCS) was installed, which has now been replaced by a modern system. As the old PCS was at the end of its life cycle, it was no longer suitable for integrating the new pelleting line. However, the existing Profibus network and the interface to the Millstar ERP system were retained.
In order to keep the system downtime during commissioning as short as possible, the signal test and the interface test to Millstar were carried out in advance in several two-day stages. Thanks to these preparations, the plant was converted to the new system within two days and production was then gradually ramped up. Once the PCS changeover was complete, the new pelleting line was integrated and put into operation.
Advantages of the new PCS:
- Modern platform: The new PCS is based on an up-to-date operating system platform, which enables long-term further development and integration of new system components.
- Efficient changeover: The preliminary tests enabled a rapid changeover, which minimized the downtime of the system.
- Improved cycle time: The faster dosing of components thanks to the new software led to a reduction in cycle time.
- Cloud solution: The PCS is supplemented by Schmid Analytics Services, a cloud solution that provides the customer with valuable reports such as mixing logs, storage, incoming and outgoing goods and traceability.
With the new process control system, the customer receives a modern and future-oriented solution that not only improves the efficiency of the plant, but also enables better integration and further development.
